The Best Wood to Build Your Outdoor Cabinets With

There are of course plenty of options for you to choose from for your outdoor cabinetry, but your best options will be the species of wood that is the most durable and resistant to rot. At Eastburn Woodworks we recommend using IPE (ee-pay) for your outdoor cabinetry because it is almost twice as dense as most woods and it is also one of the strongest – 3x stronger than Cedar. IPE is a wood from South America that is naturally very resistant to rot and mold because of its high concentration of tannic acid. This hardwood is also resistant to weathering, meaning that it is resistant to warping and cracking. IPE is so strong that it has the same fire resistance rating as steel and concrete! Although this species of wood does not accept stains very easily, we recommend IPE to our customers because of its strengths against its surroundings that enable it to last for over 25 years outdoors.
